Sheki sits in the foothills of the Greater Caucasus, ringed by forest. The palace of the Sheki khans dates from 1797, famous for its murals and shebeke windows assembled without a single nail.
In 2019 the historic centre and the Khan's Palace were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Sheki is also known for its halva and for piti.
