In brief
Lev Landau was born in Baku in 1908 and finished school and began university there. Leningrad, Kharkiv and Moscow followed.
His Nobel Prize came for the theory of superfluidity in liquid helium. The Landau–Lifshitz Course of Theoretical Physics is still read everywhere.
