In brief
Azi Aslanov was born in Lankaran in 1910. In the Second World War he commanded a tank brigade and corps, fighting at Stalingrad and in the Belarusian operations.
He was mortally wounded near Priekule in Latvia in January 1945. His first Hero star came in 1942; the second was awarded posthumously in 1991.
