In brief
Lankaran is in the far south of Azerbaijan, near the Iranian border. The climate is subtropical: tea, citrus and vegetables grow here.
Nearby lie the Hyrcanian forests, a rare relict woodland on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The town is also the birthplace of Azi Aslanov.
